Shocking pictures: CEP goes viral!

25/01/2012 – A man walks out of his house, completely unsuspecting – but what is THAT?! There is a garden hose attached to his car's exhaust pipe! The man follows the hose into his neighbour's garden. This can only be bad news…or can it? The CEP’s new viral film went live today.

The star of the viral film is actor Andreas Nickl. Before the video was filmed, he hadn't heard much about hydrogen cars. But since climate change is an important topic to him, he was excited about the technology. While shooting the film, however, the hydrogen car did present a few challenges for the camera and sound crew: “It was quite funny when the sound guy tried to record the sound of the engine running,” Andreas recalls. “When the car is not moving, you really can't hear a thing – neither from the electric motor, nor from the fuel cell. So I took him for a ride, and the sound guy was overjoyed when we finally heard a quiet humming noise!”

Andreas was given three days to test drive the hydrogen car in the big-city jungle of Berlin. When we visited him there, we had one burning question: did the exhaust pipe really emit that much steam? He reassured us, saying: “I admit we cheated on that! In reality you don't see the steam at all, we just generated it for illustrative purposes in the film”. So there is no need to worry that the roads will fog up if and when we start using hydrogen cars.
